Does Your Vehicle Qualify?
A new vehicle may be a lemon under Hawaii law if one of the following happens in the first 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first:
- The same problem has been subject to examination or repair 3 or more times and continues to be a problem.
- There is a problem that could cause serious injury or death which has been worked on at least once and isn't fixed.
- Your vehicle has been in the shop for one or more problems a total of 30 or more business days.

Two Laws That Can Help
Hawaii
Lemon Law
Covers new cars and motorcycles during the first 24 months or 24,000 miles. If your vehicle is a lemon, you may be awarded a refund or a replacement through Hawaii's State Certified Arbitration Program (SCAP).
Federal
Warranty Law
If your vehicle has problems while it's still under the manufacturer's warranty, the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act may let you recover damages or have the manufacturer buy it back.
